空間を、仕上げや装飾としてではなく、素材、光、家具、余白、経年の痕跡が重なり合う場として捉えています。

Philosophy
素材を、現代の空間へ翻訳する。
MARIMOが目指すのは、伝統的な和の再現ではありません。
左官の揺らぎ、石の重さ、土の湿度、和紙を通す光。
そこに、金属の錆、ガラスの反射、現代家具の輪郭を重ねる。
異なる素材や時間の痕跡をひとつの空間に編み直し、国内外の人に自然に届く、静かな対比を持つ場を設計します。
Approach
空間の佇まいを、素材から整える。
空間の印象は、形だけで決まるものではありません。
光がどこから入り、どの素材に触れ、どの家具の輪郭で止まり、人がどこに余白を感じるのか。
MARIMOは、素材、光、家具、照明、所作、滞在の時間を一体で読み解きながら、空間全体の佇まいを整えます。
過度に説明する空間ではなく、時間とともに身体に馴染み、記憶に静かに残る空間を目指しています。
Philosophy
MARIMO does not aim to reproduce traditional Japanese style.
We translate tactile materials into contemporary spaces: the irregularity of plaster, the weight of stone, the tactile depth of earth, and the soft light passing through washi.
These are layered with the patina of metal, the reflection of glass, and the clear lines of contemporary furniture.
By recomposing different materials and traces of time, we create spaces where quiet contrast feels natural across cultures.
Approach
The atmosphere of a space is not defined by form alone.
It is shaped by where light enters, which materials receive it, where the eye rests, and how the body moves through the space.
MARIMO reads material, light, furniture, lighting, gesture, and time as one continuous experience.
Rather than creating spaces that explain themselves too loudly, we design places that quietly settle into the body and remain in memory over time.

Based in Kyoto, Yoshioka works across spatial design and direction for retail, hospitality, residential, and brand spaces.
His work explores how local, tactile materials can be translated into contemporary environments, rather than reproduced as traditional Japanese style.
From spatial concepts and material direction to furniture, lighting, and collaboration with builders, he is involved from the early stages of a project.
